WIU Human Resources Hosts Distinguished Service and Community Service Reception

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University’s Department of Human Services has announced the winners of the 2023 Distinguished Service and Community Service Awards. An employee recognition ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 12 at the University Union.
Taylor Zeiglerfraternity and sorority life coordinator at WIU, recipient of the Community Service Award; Amanda Silberer, head of the WIU Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology, who received the Distinguished Service Award; a Carrie Lowdermanoffice manager in Alumni Relations, received the Civil Service Recognition and Service Award.
The Community Service Award recognizes exemplary volunteer work and/or outstanding service to a nonprofit community organization that is an expression of one or more of WIU’s core values. The Administrative Recognition and Service Award honors an administrator for exceptional and significant contributions to his or her department, organization or other areas within the University and is a symbol of one or more of the following: WIU values Academic Excellence, Educational Opportunity, Personal Growth and Social Responsibility.
Zeigler was selected for his volunteerism and contributions to the community and his efforts to embody WIU’s values of personal growth and social responsibility.
“Taylor works to create experiences about learning and personal development that support holistic health and personal responsibility,” said her nominee. “It’s difficult in today’s world to navigate the community as a generation-z woman, and Taylor works to provide education to sorority women on the topic of fostering safe relationships. “
Zeigler also volunteers as an Acting Special Advocate (CASA), appointed by judges to advocate for the welfare of children and works with legal and child welfare agencies to ensure resolution of the best experience for every child in the legal system.
Silberer was nominated for the Administrative Recognition and Service Award for his role in ensuring that speech pathology and audiology services are provided to the surrounding community through WIU’s Speech Pathology and Audiology program.
“Everything he does is with the goal of helping others, whether it’s the faculty and staff, the students, or the community that the SPA office serves,” said another. selector.
A second voter said Silberer “continually strives to serve our customers (Social Responsibility) and our students (Academic Excellence, Educational Opportunity, and Personal Growth).”
Lowderman was nominated for the Civil Service Recognition and Service Award for his “kind and compassionate” journey to help others.
“Carrie works full-time at the Alumni Center at WIU, helps with the family farm and ranch, helps her husband with his family business, and works to make people happy. other,” said his constituent. “Additionally, along with her husband, she is an advisor for the AGR fraternity on campus, and a director of the WIU Food Pantry. In the community she is active with the Bomber FFA Alumni Council .”
He added that his nominee Lowderman has a positive impact on the lives of WIU students and is “motivated and motivated” to “do whatever it takes to improve the lives of others.”
