When you’re on the keto diet, it’s hard to eat out. Say goodbye to pizzas, chocolate cakes and pasta – even sugary desserts and cake pops.
But if you want a hearty bowl of bak chor mee, you’re in luck.
Foodie Gregory Leow posted a video on TikTok yesterday when he gave his approval to this new interpretation of the beloved local dish.

Gregory had a bowl filled with pieces of pork, small pork, beans, ikan bilis and lots of pork belly. Hidden beneath all the protein goodness is the delicious bak chor mee in black vinegar, saffron and sambal chilli.
“This is so good,” Gregory said after taking his first bite. He also said he got hints of bitterness and sweetness from the spice. “Overall, it’s a delicious, meaty dish that tastes great.”
In an updated YouTube video, Gregory said the store has been operating since 2018. The owners then started serving low-priced dishes six months later, and they sell about 80 keto-friendly meals a day.
You also have the option to make your own keto bak chor mee ($6.50). Depending on your food needs, you can add sambal chilli, soy sauce or ikan bilis.
On top of that, the shop also offers other keto versions of your local favorites like laksa ($6.50) and Teochew-style minced porridge ($6.50) and meat soup ($5.50).
Is it healthy?
Netizens on the comment page questioned the healthiness of the food because it was filled with pork fat.
Some people thought that the cup was not good with low traffic.
On Google, it has a 4.1-star rating with reviews praising keto bak chor mee.
A local guide gives the keto bak chor mee five stars. He also revealed that he had konjac noodles in his dish. “Even if you’re not on the Keto diet, their Bak Chor Mee is really delicious and one of the best,” she said.
Another recent review said it’s a great food choice for those on a low-carb diet.
What is keto?
For those who don’t know, keto is a low-carb, low-fat diet that eliminates food. are rich in carbohydrates and sugar, such as bread, fruits, noodles and rice.
In return, you eat more fat to fill you up. Ideally, good natural fats like avocado, nuts, olive oil and butter. This is what is expected to keep you full longer.
Over time, your body can enter ketosis. It’s a metabolic state where your body burns fat for energy, instead of glucose. Therefore, it leads to depression.
