Looks like it could be a solid adventure show with a strong cast. And with idols, because why not?

I wonder if there’s any real romance in this.

…Idols? I think you might be confusing this with another show…

Mc may be developing deeper feelings for one or some of their small entourage’s fmcs, but at least I haven’t read it so far (manga reader here, haven’t checked out the novel yet, will pick it up when Yen Press drops volume 1 coming next month).

It literally shows idols in the PV and the main character is clearly a huge idol fan……….

… Ten new Narou anime from January.

Ten. Narou. Animation.

  1. Saving 80,000 gold in another world for my retirement
  2. Farm life in another world
  3. Endo and Kobayashi Live! The latest news about Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte
  4. The slow second life of the retired dark soldier in his thirties
  5. The Angel Next Door spoils me
  6. The Reincarnation of the Strongest Exorcist in Another World
  7. Apparently disillusioned adventurers will save the world
  8. The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess
  9. Reborn to master the knife: from hero king to extraordinary squire
  10. The Iceblade Sorcerer will rule the world

And we don’t even know if that’s the full list yet. This season there were seven, and that was already a record.

My deepest condolences to the preview guide reviewers.

If you really dig that promo, she looks ruthless.

IS Narou a fast growing publishing company because until recently I had never heard of them or their titles, so they fill up quickly with promotional publications of their titles?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Narou is a website for posting and sharing oriental web novels. It’s where many of the most popular (or just most) light novels first began. Think of English-language sites such as Royal Road or Wattpad. In fact, light novel publishers choose the most popular works on the site to publish. Like how 50 Shades of Gray started out as a twilight fanfiction posted on fanfic websites before it became a book and then a movie.

“Narou” is short for “Shousetsuka ni narou” (“Let’s be a novelist!”), which yes, is basically a free-to-use platform for amateur fiction writers to publish their original web novels – so no, it doesn’t host fanfic (as opposed to Wattpad). It’s also a Japanese website, so it hosts Japanese web novels, not “oriental” in general. It’s not the only site that does this, but I think it’s the oldest, it’s been around for at least a decade, so it’s definitely not new. But it has been on the rise since isekai things have become trending. Many popular isekai stories originated there, and while it has never had a focus on isekai at this point, it hardly harbors anything else because isekai is so insanely popular. (It has subsites for other types of content, such as Midnight Novels for adult content, Love Novels for TL, Moonlight for BL, etc.)

Because it’s for amateurs, quality is, ahem, inconsistent for starters, and since the rise of isekai I hear that competition has gone insane, everyone wants to be the one writing the Next Popular Thing, or at least a slice of the isekai pie. There is an LN imprint, Futabasha’s Monster Bunko, which specializes in publishing LNs that started on Narou.

You’ve read the manga but don’t know that the MC is a huge fan of idols, spends all his money on idol concerts and that idols are really part of the setting? All the things that have been established since the first chapter and have been discussed many times since?

… Lake. (Apparently, detective Conan fic was a big thing there in the early years.)

Founded in 2004, yes. Nearly two decades.

At some point they changed things so the default ranking page excluded isekai stories, i can only guess because everything got busy.

Mind you, a lot of the stuff anime gets isn’t “isekai” as we usually mean it, even if it’s set in one of those ISO standard fantasy worlds. And the most anticipated show on that list I’ve posted is probably The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten, which isn’t even… well, it isn’t not fantasy. But it’s not the kind of elves and statistics.

But yes, the promise that YOU! being the author of the next big hit novel means a huge plethora of stories being posted on Shousetsuka ni Narou. As I write this, the total stands at 985,122; six months ago it was 966,247 which equates to an average of about 210 new stories posted per day, and I don’t think that counts, though many are being removed for whatever reason. In early 2020, the average was even more, around 220. When Re:Zero Season 1 aired – one of the earlier Narou anime – the total was around 400,000, but even then it went up at about 220 per day. So, uh, it’s been a thing for a while. (And maybe the torrent of anime adaptations hasn’t actually changed all that much at source?)

I notice that when Log Horizon season 1 aired, the rate of adding stories was more like 166 per day (points A and B). Perhaps with a little more poking around in the Wayback Machine you can pinpoint exactly when major changes in the site’s activity level have occurred?
