The following contains spoilers for: Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #4, on sale August 31 from Marvel.
The last song of Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War brings back a missing Fortnite character, the Ice King.
Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #4 comes from writers Christos Gage and Donald Mustard, penciler José Luís, inkers Sean Parsons and Belardino Brabo, colorist Edgar Delgado, and letterer VCs Joe Caramagna. In a preview of the Marvel release, Spider-Man, Shuri, Wolverine, the Imagined and Agent Jones have made their way to Reality Zero as they attempt to recover the stolen Zero Shard. The team finds a castle covered in ice and snow and, upon entering, discovers the Ice King. “The Imagined Order always wondered what had happened to him,” notes Agent Jones. “He raised a bunch of hell on the island for a while. He was fighting a type of molten lava we called the Prisoner. It all led to the Giant Monster breaking loose.’
Marvel’s Fortnite Crossover Heats Up
While the Ice King appears to be frozen in place, Agent Jones accidentally activates a trap that triggers some sort of projection. “I once had a different name,” the projection tells the team. “But ‘The Ice King’ is how I’m known, and it serves well enough.” The projection tells them how he brought his palace to Reality Zero after being forced to turn against his former allies. He intended to sleep in the ice forever; however, he woke up when the Zero Shard hit Fortnite Island. “As the ice melted, I woke up and saw the danger,” the projection continues. “From my dungeons escaped the prisoner – my old ally turned enemy – I fought him and tried to stop him from unleashing even greater dangers. I failed.”
Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War is the penultimate chapter in the Marvel Fortnite crossover. As Spider-Man’s team races after the Zero Shard, Iron Man also works with several Fortnite characters to fix broken technology for a group of resistance fighters known as the Seven. The summary for Fortnite X Marvel: Zero War #4 reads: “The most dangerous person in the Marvel universe has joined some of the most dangerous people in the Fortnite universe. But what does Doom really want? And how far will he go to get it?”
