10 Anime Villains Who Died Peacefully

In anime, a villain’s demise is usually grand, melodramatic, and brutal. This is to give them the “proper desserts” for the many crimes and injustices they have done to other people. However, some villains die so peacefully that it can even frustrate the hero.

Whether they accomplished their mission or realized a new quality about themselves, these antagonists died so soundly that it almost seemed like they were never villains to begin with. Identifying them makes it easier to understand why they were able to find comfort at the end of their bad life and whether it was justified.

King Bradley was one of the most formidable antagonists in Fullmetal Alchemist. He embodied the sin of Wrath himself, waged war against Ishval and fought Scar with everything he had. However, Scar managed to take advantage of Bradley’s existing injuries and used both hands of alchemy to defeat him.

Though Bradley perished in a huge pool of his own blood, he found comfort in the light of the moon. In his last words he spoke about God, identity and what his life meant to him. Even Scar was disappointed with how satisfied he was with death.

9 Nagato died with Jiraiya’s teachings in his heart (Naruto)

After destroying the Leaf and massacring its inhabitants, Nagato has done more damage than any other Naruto villain. After being defeated, he was confronted with the principles of Jiraiya and asked where he had lost his way.

Finally, Nagato realized the magnitude of his mistake and what he had to do to fix it. Using his last powers, he brought the Leaf population back to life at the cost of his own life. In the end, Nagato died much more peacefully than many other members of the Akatsuki, such as Deidara and Kakuzu.

8 Meruem died with his humanity (Hunter X Hunter)

Much of Meruem’s quest revolved around finding his humanity, making him one of the Hunter x Hunter’s most dynamic villains. After being fatally poisoned by Netero, he had only a few hours to live. Empowered by his royal guards, Meruem could very easily have revenged himself by massacring Netero’s subordinates and even entire cities.

Instead, he chose to spend his last moments playing a board game with Komugi. He found comfort in her presence, especially since she was able to provoke him in a productive and nonviolent way. However, his closeness to the girl guaranteed that she died with him.

7 Heathcliff was pleased his game was finally done (Sword Art Online)

Heathcliff had one of the most compelling deaths in Sword art online. After constructing Aincrad as an authentic virtual experience, he voluntarily adhered to the same rules as everyone else. That meant if his character died, his NerveGear would kill him in real life.

When he fought Kirito on the 75th floor, he had a big advantage. Nevertheless, Kirito reduced his health to zero and killed him seconds before everyone else was released from the virtual world. Anyway, Heathcliff came to know with satisfaction that his game was largely experienced and accomplished.

6 Kenny Ackerman died in the company of his cousin (Attack On Titan)

Despite being a materialistic and selfish man, Kenny’s passing was one of the most poignant in his life. Attack on Titan. Clinging to his mortality with a deadly grip, he considered using Rod Reiss’ Titan serum so he would at least have a chance to become a shifter.

However, with Levi right next to him, he didn’t want to shame himself in such an eerie way. Instead, he spent his last moments answering his cousin’s questions, regardless of the troubled relationship the two had in the past.

5 Wamuu died upholding his honor (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Wamuu was different from most JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure villains because he wasn’t absurdly bad. Rather, he had a developed sense of honor that saved Joseph’s life during their first meeting. After a fateful duel that resulted in his defeat, Wamuu teetered on the brink of death.

Nevertheless, when Kars’ followers shouted to betray the terms of the battle by attacking Joseph, Wamuu used his last strength to protect his former enemy. Joseph paid his respects in return.

4 Gloxinia & Drole died after appointing successors (seven deadly sins)

Drole and Gloxinia had King and Diane tested to make sure they were worthy successors. They let them relive their lives, testing to see if they would join the Ten Commandments and become villains in the Seven deadly sins.

When King and Diane chose differently from them, the two evildoers were forced to imbue them with their power and switch sides. Together, Gloxinia and Drole stopped Chandler, but died in the process. Anyway, they were at peace with themselves and had appointed worthy new leaders of the giant and fairy clans.

3 Nui died making her mistress stronger (Kill La Kill)

Nui Harime was Ragyo’s most loyal henchman in Killed La Killed. She compelled the will of her mistress wherever she was called, and took delight in torment and murder. As the tide of the battle against the fibers of life began to turn, Nui sacrificed himself to protect Ragyo’s plans.

She died laughing and knowing that her last strength had been used to make Ryuko and Satsuki’s lives more difficult. Her death may not have been gentle, though she enjoyed it until her last fleeting moments of consciousness.

2 Esdeath died with her lover in her arms (Akame Ga Kill!)

The pseudo-romance between Esdeath and Tatsumi developed shortly after Akame Go Kill! began. Though disproportionately one-sided, Tatsumi couldn’t help but admire Esdeath’s patient effort.

When the final battle erupted, Tatsumi gave his life to save hundreds of people from the emperor’s falling colossus. Esdeath had inflicted mortal wounds and impaired Akame’s ability. She used her last moments to isolate herself from the rest of the world. She grabbed Tatsumi’s corpse lovingly and in memory of the time they spent together.

1 Obito died a hero (Naruto)

It took Obito a lot of persuasion to switch sides. Once he did, however, the man was an invaluable ally to Naruto and determined to repent, however possible. During the final fight against Kaguya, Naruto and Sasuke were pinned down by the increased gravity.

Kaguya placed two spears in front of each young man in an attempt to kill them. Heroically, Obito intercepted both projectiles through his kamui. This allowed Team Seven to continue the fight and shut down their opponent forever. As his body disintegrated, Obito couldn’t help but smile and wish Naruto the best for fulfilling the dream that he personally was never able to live.
